Insights from attendee: Nina Lichtenstein

They should calm the nervous system, awaken the senses, and quietly support our wellbeing every day. This symposium gave language and science to those instincts, and filled me with a renewed sense of purpose.

Hearing from visionary leaders like Mike Peterson stirred something in me. His research on the physiological and emotional effects of design validated the intuitive choices I make for my clients. Bill Browning’s evidence-based insights into biophilic design reminded us all that nature is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. Lyn Godley’s work with light and healing was hauntingly beautiful, while Caleb Anderson’s blend of mindfulness and elegance offered a masterclass in design that is both elevated and deeply human.

I also learned so much from Jane Dagmi, who graciously introduced each of the speakers and guided us through seven extraordinary showroom tours—and then went above and beyond by sharing even more inspiring spaces beyond the official schedule. Along the way, she offered powerful reflections on material storytelling, emotional resonance, and how brands can create deeper meaning through their design choices. Jane’s thoughtful presence added depth to every moment, and her insights continued to resonate long after the day ended.

Three panels—one with interior designers, the other two with vendors—brought these ideas into sharp focus. Each participant shared how they’re integrating sustainability, biophilia, and neuroaesthetics not as trends, but as transformative tools. The conversations were rich with substance and heart, underscoring that when we design, we’re not just designing rooms. We’re shaping environments that support mental clarity, emotional wellbeing, and healthier lives. It was clear: the future of design lies not in aesthetics alone, but in empathy.

What made the experience truly unforgettable wasn’t just the wisdom. It was the people. I left feeling deeply connected, seen, and inspired by a community that believes design is a form of care. Being surrounded by creatives who are building with purpose, not just polish, reminded me that I am exactly where I’m meant to be: crafting spaces rooted in nature, filled with intention, and designed to nourish the human spirit. The future of design is not just beautiful. It’s healing.”
