“Can Built Environments Trigger Stress Responses? Salutogenic Solutions”

Join us on June 11, 2026, for our monthly webinar series—an inspiring opportunity to explore how thoughtful design can actively support health and well-being.
This month, I’m excited to welcome Helena van Vliet for an engaging discussion on reducing stress through salutogenic design—an approach that focuses on creating environments that promote wellness at their core. In her talk, “Can Built Environments Trigger Chronic Stress Responses? Salutogenic Solutions to an Under-Acknowledged Problem,” Helena will shed light on how our surroundings influence our physiology and share empowering, science-based strategies to design spaces that foster balance and resilience.
A biophilic architect and leading expert in salutogenic design, Ms. van Vliet will guide us through the fascinating connection between environment and neural well-being, offering practical insights you can apply in your own work or daily life.
As adjunct professor to Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, she brings both academic expertise and real-world perspective to this important conversation.

This session is a wonderful opportunity to expand your understanding of neuroaesthetics and biophilic design—and to discover how intentional design choices can create healthier, more supportive environments for all.

 Creating Health-Based Design

We are thrilled to invite you to a special presentation on July 16, 2026, Noon ET! Following the extraordinary response to “Creating Health-Based Design” at our April High Point keynote address, we are excited to reprise the full presentation for those who were unable to attend Market.
This groundbreaking presentation features a one-of-a-kind “virtual showhouse” in which every design element is filtered through the lens of neuroaesthetics and biophilic design. Blending beauty, health, and science, the experience will showcase how design positively impacts emotional and physical health and wellbeing.
We are honored to feature contributions from several outstanding design firms, including TRIO Design in Denver, Mindwell Design in Toronto, Blue Lantern Studios in Atlanta, and BSB Designs in Charlotte. Each firm will share how it integrated scientific principles into the spaces it designed, demonstrating that every design decision begins with a foundation rooted in science.
This first-ever experience represents an exciting evolution in the world of interiors, and we are proud to bring it to the Science in Design®️ family.

NeuroArts — where creativity meets science

Discover the powerful connection between art, health, and wellbeing this August 13th at Noon ET. Join us for an inspiring webinar exploring the growing field of NeuroArts — where creativity meets science to improve health and well-being.

Three remarkable artists from Santa Fe, Philadelphia, and Asheville will share how art positively impacts the nervous system, emotional balance, and physical health. You’ll also hear about groundbreaking research from the World Health Organization, Penn State University, the National Endowment for the Arts, and others showing that art reduces stress, lowers heart rate, and decreases cortisol levels in the body.

This exciting conversation features Roxanne Darling (Santa Fe), Jenny Fisher (Asheville), and Trisha Patel (Philadelphia) — accomplished artists whose work is deeply supported by science and dedicated to healing through creativity.

At Science in Design ®️, we believe art has the power to transform our homes, our health, and our daily lives in meaningful ways. It’s time for art to receive the recognition it deserves as a vital part of wellness and healing.

We’re excited to lead this conversation — and we invite you to be part of it. Join us in August!
